Leuchtturm1917 Bullet Journal Ed.2

Leuchtturm1917 has released a new edition of the Bullet Journal that has 120gsm paper, in response to the critique about the degree of ghosting in the original Bullet Journal.

This journal surprised me. I’ve tried a few 120gsm journals and the Leuchtturm1917 version is up there with the best, especially for ghosting results. There is the very slightest of shadows if you’re looking hard, but once you work on each page, you wouldn’t see anything at all, and that includes an ultra-fine Sharpie (alcohol-based pen).

Leuchtturm1917 has had to sacrifice the quality of the paper for fountain pen use in going to 120gsm. There is a minimal level of feathering and it doesn’t feel perfectly smooth to write on. The paper is still coated, and is adequate for fountain pen use, although the coating does interfere with the performance of watercolours. Even with heavy water use, there was no bleed through, but the colours end up looking a bit flat because they don’t soak into the paper properly. It’s fine for ‘colouring-in’ with watercolour paints though.
