I found the Marie-en-Rose dot journal while cruising through Etsy, and was attracted to the beautiful cover artwork and the fact it had 180gsm paper. I haven’t yet found another journal with this weight of paper, so I was curious to see whether it coped with wetter inks and watercolour. The answer to that is positive and negative. Yes, it copes well with heavy inks and even lightweight use of ultra-fine alcohol-based markers, best of all – it works well with fountain pens because of the paper coating, and no, I don’t recommend it for watercolour. It’s not straightforward to assume that heavy paper will automatically work for watercolour, because it depends on the absorbency and texture as well.
The One Minute review has a summary of the key positives and negatives of the journal and my in-depth review video looks at the construction of the journal, the quality of the paper, and includes a pen test of a full range of pens. See my pen test page for an explanation of each test.
