Kokuyo recently added the soft ring notebooks to their product line. They have exactly the same paper as the Campus notebooks, and there really aren’t many other differences. The spiral isn’t colour matched on the soft ring notebooks. I chose this one rather than the Campus notebook simply because it didn’t have a cover covered in branding – it’s just a bit more subtle. The soft rings are a definite advantage over other types of spiral notebooks, especially for left-handed writers. The paper is dreamily smooth – I can’t wait to try out my fountain pens on it. The pages are lined at 6mm spacings, but each line has dots dispersed 6mm apart, so you still have the functionality of a dot grid, but with clear lines to write on – so good for those people that have trouble keeping their writing straight!
My in-depth review video will look at the company and their products, the construction, features and markings of the journal, the paper, the company’s approach to environmental and social responsibility, and includes a pen test of a full range of pens (with a special fountain pen test) and watercolour paints. See my pen test page for an explanation of each test.
