Takkti Jul – Dec 2022

Below the flip-through video, you’ll see time stamps for different themes and a description of how the theme came about.
Make sure you check out my review of the Takkti Journal – the paper is one of my favourites of all my journals. I love that you can have both a white and black booklet in one cover – I just wish I could fit them both in now that they’ve been used 🙁

I didn’t fill this journal, despite it being one of my favourites, because I felt like a fresh start after a major change in my life – sometimes you just want to put away the negative vibes. I have room left in both the white and the black booklet (two months) and I hate to waste a good journal, so I might be back – we’ll see.

Jul – Silhouettes of children (washi gradient)

Washi tape
Tombow dual brush pens
Pigma Micron pens
Stickers

My washi tape collection was growing and I now had enough colours to get a good gradient going from one colour to another. But a gradient wasn’t enough on it’s own…so I added silhouettes and thought children playing would look good on the colourful backgrounds. Doing this theme has started a gradient habit that’s hard to kick!

Aug – Watercolour flowers

Washi tape
Reeves watercolour paints
Tombow dual brush pens
Pigma Micron pens
Watercolour paper
Rub-ons

I wanted to use a new washi tape as a background (pale grey leaves), so I decided to add flowers on top. Because you can’t really draw on top of washi tape, I painted flowers on watercolour paper and stuck them on top.

Sep – Medieval

Washi tape
Prismacolor coloured pencils
Papers
Gel pens
Thread
Post it notes
Stickers

I wanted to create some videos on the washi tape techniques I’d learnt, see 10 washi tape ideas and 10 more washi tape ideas (another one to come), so this month was me creating 30 different spreads to show different techniques and ideas for using washi tape. Inspired by a dragon I had created earlier for a mental health spread, I went with a medieval theme, with dragons, knights and princesses!

Oct – Spooky doodles

Uniball Signo white gel pens
Signo Angelic gel pen in green
Gelly Roll 10 (white)
Washi tape

Despite not having finished my white-page booklet, I couldn’t resist jumping to my black-page booklet for a spooky October theme. Being super-busy meant that a simple theme was essential, and doodles are surprisingly quick to do. I covered the title page in doodles and then on following pages, I kept it minimal, with one or two doodles on each spread.

Nov – Moving house

Winsor & Newton gouache paints
Signo Angelic gel pens
Gelly Roll 10 (white)
Papers
Washi tape
Modelling paste
Gesso

I had a lot on my mind this month, because I left my marriage and moved into my own home. The month is a bit of a mish-mash, mostly gouache and mixed media spreads, but I don’t mind because I had other things to worry about.

Dec – Gnomes

Die cuts
Washi tape
Signo Angelic gel pens
Gelly Roll gel pens

I’d recovered a little by December, and had bought some gorgeous Christmassy gnome die cuts from Lemon Creation Art, one of my favourite mixed media creators. This theme had simple colours in addition to the dominant black and white, and it was perfect.
