I used this journal from December 2021 to June 2022 and I loved every minute of it. The paper responded well to all forms of stationery, including watercolour paints. Make sure you check out the flip-through of the journal – especially the month of June, which I think is my favourite theme I’ve ever done and entirely washi tape art! An added pleasure of using this Mindful Giraffe journal was the relationship I formed with Laura, the owner of the company. She loves seeing what you create and shares people’s pages on her socials regularly!
Below you will find a simple summary that tells you a little about the journal, and links to other reviews.
The first thing that impressed me when I received my Mindful Giraffe journal was the lack of packaging. Just a simple paper wrap to protect the journal inside a cardboard post pack. Love that! The company definitely has an environmental focus, with paper that is FSC certified, acid and chlorine free. There is no ghosting or bleed at all on the 170gsm paper, even with very wet watercolour and heavy marker use.
The journal has square corners, which is very unusual and looks very smart. The ribbons are too short, making it hard to pull around the corner of the journal to open at your marked page. The dot markings are unusual in that they go right to the edge of the pages – I’ve not seen another that marks them this way. The alignment of dots across open spreads is almost perfect, with just a few pages being out of line.
There are no extras with this journal; no pocket, no indexes, no elastic. You just get a good journal.
The One Minute review has a summary of the key positives and negatives of the journal and my in-depth review video looks at the construction of the journal, the quality of the paper, interesting information about the company, and includes a pen test of a full range of pens and watercolour paints. See my pen test page for an explanation of each test.
