I wanted to try a journal from India, so chose The Jotting Dots, as one of their most popular brands with 160gsm paper. The covers are handmade in India and feature beautiful designs, often with mandalas like the one I chose.
I tested an A5 journal. The 160gsm paper is very good, and has a big advantage over some other similar journals in that inks dry very quickly on the page. Despite the cover being handmade, it sits very evenly and is good quality and overall the construction is excellent. A downside is that the journal doesn’t quite lay flat while you’re working – there’s a bit of lift in the page, so you need clips to hold it down. While the journal is cheaper than many other similar brands, it’s definitely not the cheapest I’ve seen, but the quality is good.
My in-depth review video looks at the brand and their products, the construction, features and markings of the journal, the paper, the business’ approach to sustainability, and a pen test of a full range of pens and watercolour paints. See my pen test page for an explanation of each test.
