The 1584 notebook by Hahnemühle has 80 dot grid ivory pages either side of 40 plain purple pages in the centre. The 90gsm paper is great with fountain pens but has a few issues with ghosting and bleed through, so I’d stick to lighter and drier inks. The pages do dry fast though, which is handy when using fountain pens. Watercolours don’t go through the page, but they do cause a lot of page crinkle.
This notebook has a point of difference in providing two different types of paper, and the construction quality is excellent. I’d use this journal for journaling/notes on the ivory pages, and sketching on the purple pages, or perhaps project notes.
My in-depth review video looks at the construction, features and markings of the journal, the quality of the paper, the environmental sustainability of the journal, interesting information about the company, and includes a pen test of a full range of pens and watercolour paints. See my pen test page for an explanation of each test.
