Level 10 Life

As soon as I heard about a Level 10 Life I wanted to try it. Hal Elrod coined the phrase in his book The Miracle Morning: The 6 Habits that will Transform Your Life before 8am and it’s taken off. Hal Elrod says “achieving Level 10 success in every area is not only possible, it’s simple. It’s simply dedicating purposeful time each day to become a Level 10 person”.

As I understand it, the idea is to identify areas of your life you’d like to improve. The standard list used includes: health and fitness, finances, relationships, career, spirituality, physical environment, giving or contribution, friends and family, fun and recreation and personal development. Of course you don’t need to do all of these, and you can add your own. I left off finances and spirituality and added pet care and mental health.

GoalDescription
Personal DevelopmentActivities that help me perform at my best. For me this includes my university studies
Community and GivingHow I contribute to my community and make this world a better place to live
Health and FitnessPhysical health and fitness activities
Friends and FamilyMaintaining relationships, supporting them and letting them support me
Fun and CreativityActivities just for me that make me happy
Mental HealthA combination of the things I have to do and want to try to maintain and improve my mental health
Physical EnvironmentThe cleanliness and order of my surroundings. This helps us to be healthier and more productive
Marriage (Romance)Giving care and attention to my relationship with my husband
Pet CareOwning a pet is a responsibility and they need exercise, entertainment, love and care
CareerActivities to improve job satisfaction and build my career now and into the future

The spread has a diagram and can take any form (see some suggestions from Masha on her website Masha Plans). I wanted to have a world with buildings on it, headed by a large tree to represent my passion for the environment. The tree then became my ‘Community and Giving’ tracker because one of the things I most want to contribute to is protecting and improving the natural environment. Each building (and the tree) has ten windows to represent each level of attainment. I will colour in the windows as I feel I progress. I think it will be something I check back on when I do my monthly review. Rating where you are on the scale is a bit subjective. I just went with my gut feeling, but my sciency self wants to have a proper rating scale! Don’t forget we probably rate ourselves harder than others would, so it may help to try and look at yourself as others might see you, especially if you suffer from depression or perfectionism. A level 10 in physical fitness is going to be very different for an olympian when compared to what the average person would be hoping to achieve..

Each category is listed on the right with the tasks that will help me achieve level 10 in that category. I can set tasks monthly that will break down the main objectives. For example, to improve my physical environment I need to reduce clutter so I might set a monthly task to clear clutter from one area of the house. In May I’m tackling my clothes cupboard; keeping the clothes I like wearing, donating anything decent to charity and putting anything well-worn in the bin or in a bag for my brother to use as rags at his business. I use monthly cleaning trackers to motivate me to clean my house.

I hope this has been helpful and you’re inspired to try creating your own Level 10 Life spread. If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I’ll get back to you straight away.
